Shell Shock

Pounding, pounding, day and night
Pounding, pounding, no respite
The soldier lad shook and shook
His scrambled brain was all it took
They found him on the following day
In a ditch away from the fray
They took him back and shot him at first light
Shame, shame for ignorance of his plight
Pounding, pounding, day and night.
